Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language disaster thriller film[ directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Pooja Entertainment.Based on the Raniganj Coalfields collapse of 1989 in West Bengal, the film stars Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra. The film is based on Jaswant Singh Gill, a brave and diligent mining engineer from IIT Dhanbad who rescued 65 trapped miners at the Raniganj Coalfields in 1989

Principal photography took place from July 2022 to August 2023 in United Kingdom, Raniganj, Jharkhand and Mumbai. The film was theatrically released on 6 October 2023.Despite positive reviews from critics, the film was a box office failure

Plot

In 1989, miners are undergoing a shift change around midnight in Raniganj Coalfields. The mine is divided into three sections, and a blast is set off in one of the sections to open new coal veins. Upon the blast, it is noticed that the shaft is leaking water. An emergency order is sent out to evacuate, but the Behra (deaf) section is led by a deaf miner who doesn't hear the phone signal. Most of the 200+ miners were evacuated except for all 60+ miners in the Behra section and 6 miners who drown trying to escape the mines. Jaswant Singh Gill is a manager of a nearby mine who notices the emergency vehicles headed for the mine and decides to lend his services. Upon arrival he encounters stiff resistance from other members of the operation who believe that all the miners are already dead and a rescue is futile. The head of the flooded mine, Ujjwal, requests his help in the rescue operation. Gill recruits a disgraced surveyor, Tapan Ghosh, and a drilling engineer, Bindal, to scope the highest point of the mine. From here, he excavates an 8-inch borehole, placing a flashlight as a signal to the miners. However, unbeknownst to them, the miners are stuck behind a brick wall obstructing the path to the highest point and do not see the flashlight. Meanwhile, Sen from Coal India is sent to sabotage the mission, as the manager of Raniganj Coalfields, Ujjwal, is intensely disliked by his boss. He proposes rescuing the miners through a closed mineshaft which had been breached by the explosion, disregarding Gill’s warning that the shaft is heavily flooded and cannot be accessed. His crew uncovers the bodies of 6 miners who drowned, causing the rescue crew to abandon the mission and shut down operations. The flashlight is withdrawn just before the miners reach the highest point. However, the dog of one of the miners hears the miners' desperate cries and barks at Gill, alerting him that the miners are still alive and the rescue should be continued.

After Sen's attempt fails, the efforts focus on Gill. The 8-inch borehole allows for food, water, and medicines to be sent down to the mine, along with a communications line. Through a Davy lamp, the miners discover that the shaft is being filled with carbon dioxide gas, which along with the water is creeping towards them. Gill devises a 29-inch wide capsule which can be used to pull the miners up one at a time from a larger borehole. To ruin this attempt, Sen has key pieces removed from the crane he brought in, preventing the miners from being speedily rescued. Gill deduces that the miners only have 48 hours before their oxygen supply runs out. With no alternative, they begin manually winching each miner out. Most of the miners are rescued, but in a critical phase, oxygen runs low and they realize they cannot save everyone manually. Govardhan, the local MLA and union leader, attacks Sen until he admits to deliberately ruining the crane. Under pressure, he has the crane fixed and brought to the mine. Gill appears to black out from lack of oxygen, but despite losing his metal hammer, uses his kaṛā to signal the capsule to be lifted. Gill is the last to be removed from the minefields, and is rewarded with a Rs. 1 lakh cheque and immediate promotion. The disgraced surveyor is recognized for his efforts and paid his missing wages.

Publication history

Troll Gods was written by Greg Stafford and Sandy Petersen with William Dunn, with a cover by Tom Sullivan, and illustrations by Dave Dobyski, and was published by The Avalon Hill Game Co. in 1990 as a boxed set with an 88-page book, a 28-page book, and a large two-color map

Shannon Appelcline explained that by 1987, RuneQuest was the only role-playing game still being published by Avalon Hill, which wanted to publish the game cheaply, so that "in-house cartographer Dave Dobyski was given all artwork assignments for RuneQuest. Although his maps were top rate, he wasn't an illustrator, and it showed in the amateurish drawings that appeared starting in Troll Gods (1989).: Receptio

Philip A Murphy reviewed Troll Gods for Games International magazine, and gave it 4 stars out of 5, and stated that "If your RuneQuest campaign takes place in Glorantha, this is another coup for Chaosium – I'm afraid you just can't live without this one!

Leo (2023 Indian film)

Leo (also marketed as Leo: Bloody Sweet) is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film[ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Seven Screen Studio. The film stars Vijay in the titular role, alongside Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Trisha, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Madonna Sebastian, George Maryan, Mansoor Ali Khan, Priya Anand and Mathew Thomas. It is the third installment in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe and is inspired by A History of Violence (2005), an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name. The film follows Parthi, a café owner and animal rescuer in Theog, who is pursued by gangsters Antony and Harold Das who suspect him to be Antony's estranged son, Leo.

The film was officially announced in January 2023 under the tentative title Thalapathy 67, as it is Vijay's 67th film as a lead actor, and the official title was announced a few days later. Principal photography commenced the same month in Chennai along with a sporadic schedule in Kashmir, which was again followed by another schedule held at the former location, and wrapped by mid-July. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and editing by Philomin Raj.

Leo was released worldwide on 19 October 2023 in standard and IMAX formats to mixed reviews from critics. It set several box office records for a Tamil film, emerging as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023, the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, the highest-grossing Tamil film overseas and the highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu.

Development

Leo is the second collaboration of Vijay with Lokesh Kanagaraj after Master (2021).

After the success of Master in early 2021, it was reported that Lokesh Kanagaraj visited Vijay at his residence and narrated a script which impressed him. The project was supposed to be the actor's 66th film as a leading actor; however, that position instead went to Varisu (2023). Reports of a potential collaboration between Lokesh and Vijay continued through February 2022. The following March, Lokesh confirmed there were discussions for him to direct Vijay's 67th film. That May, he confirmed the project, tentatively titled Thalapathy 67.The project was funded by S. S. Lalit Kumar's Seven Screen Studio, which had distributed and co-produced Master.[Vijay's manager, Jagadish Palanisamy, served as a co-producer. The company made a public announcement on 30 January 2023, confirming the project, and the film's official title Leo was revealed on 3 February 2023.

The film was made on a budget of ₹250–350 crore, and Vijay was reported to receive ₹120 crore (US$15 million) as his remuneration. However, he reportedly decided to take the revenue sharing model, to benefit the film's production; as per the basis, he would receive ₹50 crore (US$6.3 million) as an advance, and a chunk of the profits would be received as the actor's remuneration. Vijay was not in favour of making Leo a pan-Indian film, as he wanted to focus on satisfying the Tamil audience. The actor, however, changed his mind after Lalit and Jagadish convinced him. Some changes were also made to the original story to help the film cater to a wider audience. In August 2023, the film was reported to be a part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), as the makers had signed a no-objection certificate with Dream Warrior Pictures and Raaj Kamal Films International, the producers of the LCU's previous installments Kaithi (2019) and Vikram (2022) respectively. The film's status in the LCU was not confirmed until after its release.

Tiger3

Avinash "Tiger" Singh Rathore is called for a mission by R&AW chief Maithili Menon to rescue Tiger's former handler Gopi Arya from the Taliban in Afghanistan, who was captured after trying to extract information about a mission being planned in Pakistan. Following his rescue, Gopi reveals that Zoya is involved in the planned mission and dies shortly after. Tiger begins to spy on Zoya, where he is assigned to safeguard a RAW agent named Jibran Sheikh in St. Petersburg, Russia, who worked with Gopi and escaped to the country after being discovered in Pakistan. Tiger witnesses Zoya's attempt to assassinate Sheikh; after saving him, Tiger is captured by Zoya's protège and former ISI agent Aatish Rehman, who reveals that he forced Zoya to assassinate Sheikh by nearly fatally drugging and kidnapping her and Tiger's son Junior.

Tiger and Zoya recruit their team of RAW agents, consisting of Rakesh Prasad Chaurasia, Nikhil and Karan Rao; to steal a briefcase for Aatish, containing missile launch codes in Istanbul in exchange for Junior. Aatish then has Tiger and Zoya framed as terrorists and traitors by their respective countries, leading to Tiger's imprisonment in Pakistan. It is revealed in a flashback that Aatish sought to derail a peace treaty between India and Pakistan in Vienna in 2011 by assassinating the lead Indian army general twelve years earlier. After refusing to cooperate with the plan, Zoya covertly informed Tiger. Aatish's pregnant wife Shaheen Baig, attempted the assassination, but was shot and killed by Tiger. Tiger, Zoya, and their team secretly enter the PMO and reveal the plan to Irani. Tiger and Zoya take Irani to an underground bunker and Tiger forces Haq to publicly reveal the plan.

However, Aatish secretly kills Haq with the help of Javed, who is revealed to be Shaheen's brother and frames Tiger for killing Haq. Abrar and Karan are killed by Aatish and Javed, who locate Irani. Hassan sacrifices himself to create a diversion, allowing Tiger and Zoya to help Irani escape. Zoya later avenges Abrar and Karan by killing Javed. Tiger kills Aatish, while Irani exposes Aatish's plan to the public. Tiger, Zoya and their team are proven innocent. Rakesh and Nikhil's charges are dropped by Menon while Tiger assures her that he will return to serve his country on his own terms.

In a post-credits scene, Colonel Sunil Luthra contacts Kabir Dhaliwal and assigns him to assassinate an unidentified person.
